All In Daily Devotional March 7: God’s Word is Profitable for Instruction
First Redeemer Church
God’s Word is Profitable for Instruction
“All Scripture is inspired by God and is profitable for teaching, for rebuking, for correcting,
for training in righteousness.”
2 Timothy 3:16
“Your word is a lamp for my feet and a light on my path.”
Psalm 119:105
The Bible is no ordinary book. In it, we have all we need for life and godliness, just as Peter promised. It is more than stories to hear, history to read, and stuff to remember. It is directly profitable every day and serves a purpose in every season.
God knows what we need. We are the sheep, and He is the Shepherd for a reason. It does not take long to wander. We are distractable and way too independent. We make a mess before we look up to realize we are far from where we are meant to be. We too quickly entertain all sorts of other voices that drown our Shepherd’s direction.
God’s instruction is for us and points toward our good.
It teaches who He is and how to live, exposing sin and pointing to grace. It shouts the gospel and beckons every “whosoever,” exalting the cross and declaring the empty grave. It illuminates specks, inclines hearts, and secures steps, making better reflections of Him along the way. It turns knowledge into wisdom, lights the darkest paths, and equips for every good work. All of it is for our good so all the glory can be His.
The Bible is unlike any other.
It is a good and perfect gift.
It is a power beyond our own.
God charged Joshua to be courageous and to walk in His instruction. God knew that not turning to the right or left would guard his steps. It is no different for us. We were made to walk in God’s words. His instructions are all we need for our good and His glory.
We could know the Bible from the inside out and never allow it to lead our lives. We must be willing to let it penetrate our depths so it can direct our steps. His instructions give the light our feet need to walk in His ways.
To where else can we run?
Who else holds the words of life?
We’re All In.
o We praise You that Your Word guides our lives and lights our paths so our feet can follow.
o We confess all the times we have looked to the right and to the left and neglected Your instruction for our lives.
o Deepen our daily need for Your Word to teach, train, correct, and make us more like You.
o Thank You for faithfully walking beside us, loving us in this way, and not leaving us to our own wandering.
