All In Daily Devotional March 3: The Power of the Gospel
First Redeemer Church
The Power of the Gospel
“For I am not ashamed of the gospel because it is God’s power for salvation to everyone who believes, first to the Jew, and also to the Greek. For in it God’s righteousness is revealed from faith to faith just as it is written: ‘The righteous will live by faith.’”
Romans 1:16-17
There is comfort in certainty. God spoke finality through His Son, and there is power in His gospel. God did what He said He would. He did what no other could. He gave humanity the best object lesson of all. We matter.
We matter greatly, and so the gospel matters. It is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes. We stop to revel here today.
We have seen the depth of the human heart enough to know it is not so pretty. God saw our depths, too, and called us lovely still. He called us His. The song rings true – the gospel is exactly what they say it is. Amazing.
It breaks chains.
It sets captives free.
It floods darkness with light.
It tells death it gets no say.
It covers sin.
It chases out fear.
It makes the blind see.
It heals wounds.
It brings beauty from ashes.
It pursues and carries us home.
It is everything we could never accomplish.
It is nothing we deserve.
Earthly impact with eternal reward and a beacon for the broken, the gospel wells in us urgency for others to know the same. This world boasts empty vessels that leave behind only longing. We have been there, desperate for a God-sized answer to fill our God-sized holes.
The gospel satisfies from the inside out. There is no other well so deep. In a world of certainties that do not stay certain, Jesus is the answer. The gospel matters most. It saves, and it persists straight into eternity.
There is power in the gospel. It is a power beyond our own.
The cross holds steady, the grave is empty, and Jesus is coming again. We have work to do for His kingdom. Eternity is at stake. How could we neglect so great a salvation?
We will not. We are not ashamed. We will carry it forward until the day He calls us home. The gospel is God’s power for salvation to all who believe. That song is ours to sing for eternity.
Let’s not waste any time.
We’re All In.
o We praise you, God, for accomplishing what we never could. We pray you continue to open eyes and hearts and do what only you can.
o Forgive us for the times we lose sight of it and focus on ourselves.
o Help us not be ashamed of the gospel and share it well with our community and world.
