Greater Love Has No One than This, That Someone Lay Down His Life for His Friends

 

 

“No one has greater love than this, that someone would lay down his life for his friends.”

John 15:13

 

 

God staked His great love upon us and sacrificed His best. While we were still sinners, Jesus laid down His life. By this, we know what love looks like. Through this, we know what love is. 

 

His example compels us forward. We extend love in the same manner whether we think others are worthy or not. None of us deserved His pursuit or His grace. Still, Jesus valued us worthy. 

 

He values others the same. Too quickly, we cease to see others as God sees them. We must be intentional about putting ourselves aside. The Son of Man came to give His life as a ransom for all. Great love exhibits great sacrifice. It is His example we emulate. 

 

So we look up, and we look outside ourselves. In Him, we must abide. Only there can we invest in people with His heart and His strength. Only there can our words and actions speak His truth.  His is a power beyond our own. 

 

Love sacrifices and love shows. We have ourselves to offer. We must be willing to love as He loves. Apart from Him, we can do nothing.

 

How can we give anything less than our best? 

How could we withhold everything He deserves?

o   We thank You, God, for your example of great love and costly sacrifice.

o   Help us see people as You see them, not through our own eyes.    

o   Forgive us for being too busy to look outside ourselves or to look up to You.

o   Help us bear much fruit as we abide in You and love others the way You have loved us.

o   Give us the opportunity and courage to follow Your example of sacrifice and obedience so that our community and world will know Your good gospel and amazing grace.
