God Blesses Obedience
“Now if you faithfully obey the Lord your God and are careful to follow all His commands I am giving you today, the Lord your God will put you far above all the nations of the earth. All these blessings will come and overtake you because you obey the Lord your God.”
Deuteronomy 28:1-2
God blesses obedience and greatly uses those who chase Him. It is a
running thread in the Bible. Noah built an ark, and God spared him. Abraham
went when God said, “Go,” and we know the rest of the story. The widow fed
Elijah with her last bits of flour, and God miraculously provided. The
disciples carried the gospel message, and the church exploded. It goes on and
on.
God has always blessed the obedient…and He still does.
We stop today to thank Him for His provision in obedience. When we follow ourselves or what is around us, the picture is not pretty. God knows our way and has all we need waiting. We flourish in our following as He faithfully uses our willing pursuit for His glory. What an encouragement to steward our steps well.
We have an invitation to chase hard after the One already chasing us. Sometimes strides come easy, and in others, we trudge through. In either case, we march toward an already settled eternity. In both cases, God grows us and accomplishes what only He can through us.
When we steward our steps well, He measures His own with ours. Obedience is our privilege to parade in because He has already done everything. The Law of Moses is fulfilled in Christ. His is a power beyond our own.
This is the life He calls us to. We are accountable for what is not our own. His plan is the best one, and He invites us to live now as we know. In Him, we are whole, and one day we will be home.
Until that day, let’s refuse to bury His good gift, so glory falls into place right where it belongs.
Our Master has given us all we have.
Who are we to withhold anything from Him?
We’re All in.
o We praise You, God, for your willingness to walk beside us and the blessing we have in obedience.
o Forgive us for our faithlessness and help us fix our eyes on You.
o Help us invest our time, talent, and treasure well as we follow You.
o Help us see opportunities to obey you all around us.
o Give us the courage to step forward in those opportunities so that our community and world see You in our lives and are spurred to follow You in obedience.
