All In Daily Devotional March 10: Obedience to God’s Word Leads to Blessing
First Redeemer Church
Obedience to God’s Word Leads to Blessing
“He said, ‘Even more, those who hear the word of God and keep it are blessed!’”
Luke 11:28
We do not always think favorably of the idea of obedience. Neither do we pause to consider our need for it. Today we dare to embrace it and thank God for His faithful plan for us in His Word.
God knows what He is doing. He knows that sheep who are not very smart need a shepherd, and that fickle hearts need guardrails. He knows that when we obey, we flourish. He designed us to thrive in the bounty of His Word for our good and His glory.
How beautiful to remember. Day in and day out, it is bread to sustain and living water to satisfy. Step by step, it reminds us how vastly dependent we are and provides, again and again, everything we do not deserve.
Provision awaits at every turn. In obedience, God’s Word opens our eyes, renews our minds, corrects our hearts, and reminds us that we are His. His commands make wise the simple and revive our souls. They incline us to Him because His perfect law of liberty is for our good. Jesus said that those who hear His words and obey them would be blessed. There is a necessary connection between hearing and doing; our feet must fall in step.
The Bible is unlike any other.
It is a good and perfect gift.
It is a power beyond our own.
By this stream, we flourish, and behind this shepherd, we stay. Muddled vessels and lumpy clay are useless. We must continue forward in what we know and have become convinced of.
Sheep are lost without a shepherd.
Plants need water.
Mirrors show us something.
These things we know well. God’s Word guards our way. Obedience may be measured one step at a time in His direction, but He sees the journey. In every push forward, we find all we need waiting.
To where else can we run?
Who else holds the words of life?
We’re All In.
o We praise You, God, for the invitation to walk in obedience and for providing all we need.
o Forgive us for hearing and not doing and missing what you had waiting for us.
o Thank you for being our great reward, for Your presence and faithful patience.
o Give us a deeper desire for Your Word and incline our hearts to You so that through us, others will see the treasure we have in You and the perfect provision You are.
